Privacy Policy
The short version. Photo Cutout edits your photos on your device. Your photos are uploaded only when you choose a feature that says it uses cloud AI — the ordinary cutout, the manual erase brush and everything you do in the editor never leave your phone.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising or marketing purposes.
1. Who this policy covers
This policy explains how the Photo Cutout: BG Eraser Android application (package com.photostudio.aiphotoeditor), and the backend service it talks to, handle your information. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “the app” mean the developer of Photo Cutout.
By using the app you agree to this policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the app.
2. What we collect, and why
| What | Why we need it | When |
|---|---|---|
| Account information Email address, display name and profile picture | To create and manage your account, keep your subscription in sync, and let you sign back in on another device. | Only if you sign in with Google or Facebook. If you continue as a guest we create an anonymous account with no name or email attached to it. |
| Photos and images | To perform the cloud AI edit you asked for — HD cutout, enhance, magic erase, AI replace, AI expand, shadow, product photo, thumbnail or image generation. | Only for those specific features, and only for the image you select at that moment. |
| A hashed device identifier | To count the free daily allowance fairly, and to stop the same device claiming unlimited free uses by reinstalling. See section 4. | Each time you use a free allowance. |
| Advertising identifier | To show ads, including the rewarded ads that grant extra free uses, and to measure them. | Free users only, and subject to your consent choice where the law requires one. |
| Usage and diagnostic data Which screens and tools were used, whether an export or purchase succeeded, error reasons, app version, device model, OS version, coarse region | To understand which features are used, to fix crashes and errors, and to prevent abuse. | Throughout normal use. These events describe actions, never the content of your photos. |
| Purchase information Subscription status, purchase token, plan and expiry | To unlock Pro features and keep them in sync. Google Play processes the payment — we never see your card, bank or billing details. | Only if you buy a subscription. |
| Messages you send us | To answer your support request. | Only when you write to us from Help & Support, or by email. |
3. What never leaves your device
This matters more than anything else in this policy, so it gets its own section:
- Magic Cutout — automatic background removal runs entirely on your phone. Nothing is uploaded.
- Manual Cutout — the erase and restore brush runs entirely on your phone. Nothing is uploaded.
- The editor itself — layers, text, shapes, filters, adjustments, retouch, frames, backgrounds and effects are all applied locally.
- Your projects — saved in the app’s private storage on your device.
- Your exports — written to your device gallery, and shared only where you choose to share them.
- Your photo library — we read only the specific image you pick. The app never scans, indexes or uploads your gallery.
4. The hashed device identifier, in plain terms
Free accounts get a small number of free uses per day. To stop one device claiming them over and over by uninstalling and reinstalling, the app derives an identifier from the Android device ID (Settings.Secure.ANDROID_ID).
The raw identifier never leaves your device. It is first combined with a fixed secret value and hashed with SHA-256, and only that hash is sent. The result is an opaque string that lets our server count uses against a device and nothing else — it cannot be reversed back to your device, and it cannot be matched against any other app’s records.
This identifier is used strictly for abuse and fraud prevention. It is not used for advertising, not used to build a profile of you, and not shared with anyone.
5. Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| Photos and media | To let you pick a photo to edit, and to save your finished export. Only the image you select is read. |
| Camera | Only if you choose to take a new photo from inside the app. Declining it does not stop you using the app. |
| Notifications | To tell you when a long cloud edit has finished. Optional. |
| Internet and network state | For cloud features, sign-in, subscriptions and ads. |
You can change or withdraw any of these at any time in Android Settings → Apps → Photo Cutout → Permissions.
6. Who we share information with
We share only what a service needs in order to do its job, and only with the services listed here. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising or marketing purposes.
| Service | What it receives | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Analytics) | Account details, usage events, subscription and quota records | Sign-in, account storage, app analytics |
| Google Play Billing | Purchase and subscription data | Processing and verifying subscriptions |
| Google Ad Manager / AdMob | Advertising identifier and ad interaction data | Showing and measuring ads, including rewarded ads |
| Google User Messaging Platform | Your consent choice | Collecting and recording ad consent where it is required |
| Meta (Facebook Login) | Your Facebook sign-in details | Only if you choose to sign in with Facebook |
| Railway | Requests made to our backend | Hosting our backend service |
| Cloudflare R2 | Images processed by cloud features | Storing the input and the result while the job runs and until you have collected it |
| fal.ai, Replicate, PhotoRoom, Kie.ai, OpenAI | The single image or prompt for the edit you requested | Running the AI model behind that specific feature |
These providers may use what they receive only to deliver the service to us, under their own terms and privacy policies. We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, or to protect our rights, our users, or the safety of either against fraud or abuse.
7. Ads and your choices
The app shows ads to free users. Pro subscribers see no ads.
- In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the app presents a consent form before any personalised ads are served, and records your choice. You can change it at any time from the app’s settings.
- On any device you can limit ad tracking or reset your advertising ID in Android Settings → Google → Ads.
- Rewarded ads are always optional. You watch one only if you choose to earn an extra free use.
8. How long we keep things
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Images sent to cloud features | Kept only for as long as it takes to run the job and deliver the result back to you, and deleted when you delete your account. They are never used to train any model of ours. |
| Account information | Until you delete your account. |
| Free-use and quota records | Rolling daily counters, kept for a short period for abuse prevention. |
| Purchase records | For as long as tax, accounting and refund obligations require. |
| Analytics events | Under Firebase Analytics’ own retention settings, up to 14 months. |
| Support emails | Until the request is resolved, and for a reasonable period afterwards. |
9. Your rights, and how to use them
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your personal information, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent you have given.
Deleting your account
You can do this yourself, inside the app, at any time:
Profile → Account → Delete account
This permanently removes your account and the personal data attached to it. It cannot be undone, and it does not cancel a Google Play subscription — cancel that separately in the Play Store, under Payments & subscriptions.
Everything else
Write to hthmytv@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
10. Children
Photo Cutout is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
All traffic between the app and our services is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Access to stored data is restricted, and cloud image storage is served through short-lived signed links rather than public URLs. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect your information.
12. International transfers
Our service providers operate in a number of countries, including the United States, so your information may be processed outside the country you live in. Where required, transfers are made under appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Photo Cutout after a change means you accept the updated policy.
